  About Orchid Beach Fraser Island

K’Gari is the Butchulla tribe name for Fraser Island. It means paradise.

This treetop cottage sleeps six in two queen bedrooms and one bunk bedroom. The house is fully screened, solar powered and totally private.

In the panoramic view above (seen from the verandah) you can actually see the curve of the earth.

K'Gari is on an uncleared one acre block and overlooks Waddy Point at the northern end of Fraser Island. Its remote and beautiful location is the quiet alternate to the busy tourist settlements in the south of the island.

Pricing $1550 per week.

The aboriginal legend of princess K'Gari

Orchid Beach is surrounded by some of Fraser Island's best kept secrets. Because of its remote location these continue to be the exclusive domain of locals and those who stay in the few houses available for rent.

K'Gari is positioned high on the hill about 500 metres from the beach. This is where you want to be to take advantage of the panaromic views and the cool summer breezes. While you can easily walk to the beach in a few minutes, when you get there you find yourself looking at a 60 km stretch of sand. It can be a long walk to places of interest, so you're really better off driving.

What's unusual about K'Gari is that it is built on the largest block of land overlooking the beach in the area. Because both adjacent blocks have not been cleared, K'Gari has an feeling of being totally private and isolated compared to the more developed cleared areas in the north of the Orchid Beach township.

When a long term local said "there's only one thing I don't like about K'Gari", we asked what that was.

He replied "its not mine".
