You must have a 4WD to visit Fraser. The road is the beach. There are several ways to get to Orchid Beach listed above together with approx. travel times. All visitors need a permit to travel on the island. These can be purchased in person at Rainbow Beach or at the barge at Hervey Bay or at Visitors Permits online . Barges leave for the island from River Heads in Hervey Bay and Inskip Pont near Rainbow Beach. See Barge Info.
It is strongly recommended you only drive in daylight hours and within 3hrs of low tide. Tides at Waddy Point will give you local tide times.

4WD hire info
Note that Orchid Beach is classified as a "Remote area" and not all 4WD drive hire companies will cover for car insurance north of Indian Head. (Orchid Beach is about 10k north of Indian Head.)
One company in Hervey Bay that will cover your 4wd for insurance to Orchid Beach is Safari 4WD Hire . If you have some 4wd experience, Fraser Magic 4WD hire also may cover your insurance to Orchid Beach. Another company in Rainbow Beach we do recommend (despite being harder to get to) is Adventure Centre. It has a large choice of vehicles and is more targeted towards visitors staying in accommodation on the island. To get to Rainbow Beach from Brisbane/Hervey Bay/Noosa you can get cheap 2wd car from Aussie Bargain Car Rentals .
Note only some mobiles work on the island. Public phones are at Eurong, Happy Valley, Cathedrals.
Flying to Fraser
From Maroochydore. Air Fraser 0741 253 600. Scheduled flight at 7.30 am Marochydore to Eurong and returns at between 3-4pm.
4WD hire is available at Eurong (about 1 hr to Orchid beach). Air Fraser hire out 4WD .
