Use this option when main hiway approach is more convenient or Rainbow Beach is  impassable via beach from Noosa or tides not suitable. 

The turn off to Rainbow Beach is just south of Gympie. On arrival at Rainbow Beach and before travelling to Inskip to take the barge, you will need to purchase a permit to travel on the island from the Ranger's Office (first building in town) or online here. Ranger's office is open from 7am to 4pm, seven days, phone (0754) 86-3160.

While at Rainbow, fill the car with fuel, buy a map of Fraser and a tyre pressure gauge. Follow signs to BARGE at Inskip Point. Last barge is at 4:30pm. Allow 15
mins from Rainbow to Inskip and 20 mins waiting to get on, 15 minutes for the actual trip to Fraser. Once on the island allow 2 hrs to get to Orchid Beach (with no stops). 

Lower tyre pressures to 15-20 psi before getting on beach to access barge.

Ask the attendant if you can get around Hook Point orif you should take the inland road. Drive north, take care at Eli Creek, and follow the signs to Orchid Beach.
