South Waddy Beach and beyond
From Waddy Point there is a driving track over the dune to South Waddy Beach. Access to the beach is restricted for vehicles and it is one of the few places on the Island where you can walk on the beach without passing traffic. It’s an easy 15 min walk to the end of the beach where there is little cove and a cave where you can sometimes see bats living in the ceiling. You can then continue south over the headland to the secluded “Nudey Beach” and then further to the Champagne Pools and further again to Indian Head. To Champagne Pools and back to South Waddy is about 2-3 hrs walk.
South of Orchid Beach
If the wind is from the NE to NW it is best to head south. South Waddy Beach and Indian Head and further south will be sheltered. About 20 mins south of Indian Head and just inland from Dundaburra is Lake Allom. It has some spectacular rainforest, a pretty walking track around the lake and cute baby turtles.
Lake McKenzie: From Orchid Beach it is about 1hr drive to Eurong and another 30 mins to Lake McKenzie. Note the tides need to be considered if making this trip.
